Our Peace of the Internet

Wow. I can't believe I have slacked off for over 2 years! I wanted to start this blog to keep family and friends updated on our wedding journey and beyond, but after the engagement post, it looks like we just disappeared! Just kidding! We are still alive and doing very well! We did get married on October 12, 2013 and it was the most beautiful day. The weather was a breezy 72 degrees, birds were chirping and God was ever present in our commitment to each other that day. We had 16 of our closest friends standing up there with us, along with about 250 friends and family cheering us on to victory! :) I won't bore you with the details, but we had a great day, lots of fun and no mishaps. The two families came together in true Leary/Cummins fashion. We did a Cardinal Theme and it turned out really neat. The decorations, the cake, the wedding party gifts were all in sync and we wouldn't have changed anything! We actually were on the 5:00 news that evening because the St. Louis Cardinals were also in the playoffs and they won! So we got to do an interview with Stephanie Diffin from KSDK, Channel 5, in St. Louis. She was wonderful and she respected our day like it was her own. Here is her piece about us. :) Thanks Steph!! Please enjoy some pictures from our perfect day! Thanks for reading!! Until next time, stay awesome!

Our Beginning
Well, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I started a blog! I figured with all the family and friends we have around the U.S., maybe this would be a great way to share our journey. So, first off, Welcome! We are glad to have you. :) I hope to keep up with this and maybe post at least once a week, whether it is sharing some news, pictures, advice, recipes, tutorials, or whatever. Thanks for stopping by! We hope you have a blessed day!
This is our "Unofficial" engagement announcement photo, taken by dad (Tim) in his basement. This went out on our "Save The Date" cards. We plan to have "Official" engagement photos done by our good friend, Tiffany Cecil, who does great photography out of Kansas City (originally from the STL area). If you live out that way, look up A Touch of TLC Photography on Facebook. She is amazing! Anyway, most of you already know our story and how we met, but if you haven't heard, then let me take you on a trip down my memory lane...
My cousin, Paul Baker, was in the midst of getting married and I was asked to be one of Kea's bridesmaids in their destination wedding to Key West, FL in October, '11. I started to help out with a lot of the planning and helping Kea get her favors done, help plan and execute her shower, which in turn, helped me get a lot closer to Paul's mom, my Aunt Gina. We got close and she could see what kind of person I was to be around. One day, I got a phone call from her. I half expected her to add something to my list of things to do before the cruise, when much to my surprise, she asked if I would go on a date with a friend of her's. I immediately replied with a resounding "No. Not happening." She softly said "Well, you haven't even let me tell you how nice he is. He is really funny and a sweet guy. He is just as big of a Cardinal fan as you are. He has a big heart and is very polite. You deserve to be happy, don't you?" I said "Yes, but I'm happy with being single. I'm just not ready to get out there. It has been 5-1/2 years, but I just feel like it would be a waste of his and my time." She said "Well, will you at least talk to him? Can I give him your phone number or give you his? Just talk to him and see what happens." I said "Sure, you can give him my number." Well, a few days go by, and I didn't hear anything. In the mean time, I consulted a few friends and they all told me that I should at least go on one date. I thought, "Ok, what could it hurt? One date, one meal, and if it doesn't work, then no hurt feelings." Gina called me back on that following Sunday. She said "I didn't give him your number but he said to look him up on Facebook." So Monday morning, I couldn't find him, so I Googled his name. I know, stalker, right?! Ha. That's when I saw how great of a bowler he was and had made a name for himself at McKendree University, in Lebanon, IL. So I started to think that maybe this guy was legit, because he actually had a hobby and went to college. He sent me a friend request that day and we started messaging back and forth. Then, Tuesday, we had a four hour phone conversation, the longest he had ever been on the phone. We basically just put all the cards on the table from the get-go; no secrets, only trust. By Thursday, I was ready for that Friday night date. I told him that he would have to plan it because I wanted to see what he would come up with. He picked me up at Chico's Bar & Grill, and took me to Ameristar Casino for dinner. We planned to watch the last game of the first round of the NLDC: Cards vs. Phillies (which the Cards won and went on to win the World Series). We ate at Pearl's Oyster Bar. Unbeknownst to me, DJ hates seafood, but it was the only place that had seating that night to watch the game, so he grinned and said "Oh, I'm sure I will find something on the menu." And from that point on, I just knew in my heart, he was different from any man I've ever known, let alone the ones I've dated.
DJ has shown me so much in life: how to be patient, how to let certain things and people just run off your shoulders, how not to get so stressed and to just enjoy each day, no matter what happens. He truly has the biggest heart and he is so thoughtful, it's incredible. Don't get me wrong, every relationship has it's moments of testing, but 99% of the time, it's just laughing and loving :) I'm so excited to marry my best friend. Anyway, I'm rambling (which is normal, so those of you who like this blog will enjoy my lengthy posts...lol), so I'm going to sign off. God's Blessings!
